Xiaomi today unveiled its new compact flagship smartphone, the Mi 4i, at a global premiere in India at a price of Rs. 12,999. The smartphone packs some amazing specifications and will give a tough fight to other smartphones in the price bracket such as Moto G (2013), Lumia 640,640XL and the Asus Zenfone 2 which is also launched today.
Marking the global launch in Indian market, Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi, said: “India is extremely significant to Xiaomi. It is our largest international market outside of mainland China, and I am truly excited that Mi 4i will be launching first in India, followed by our other global markets. ”
Mi4i features a single polycarbonate body and boasts of a 5- inch 1080p display with a pixel density of 441PPI. It integrates a new Sunlight Display technology that dynamically adjusts the contrast of each pixel for easy viewing under direct sunlight.
Under the hood is the Snapdragon 615 second-gen 64-bit 8 core processor with a clock speed of 1.7 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM. The company also mentioned that the CPU has been designed and manufactured by Qualcomm India.
Xiaomi smartphones pack some really good camera modules and Mi4i integrates a 13 MP f/2.0 rear shooter with 2nd-gen CMOS sensor and a dual tone LED flash. The front is equipped with a 5 MP camera with 80-degree wide angle lens and various modes. Moreover the smartphone is the first MIUI 6 device based on Android L and features 4G dual SIM slots.
Xiaomi said that the company has collaborated with manufacturing partner Foxconn and has manufacture the smallest and thinnest motherboard for a phone of this size, making space for a huge 3120mAh battery that can power through 1.5 days of normal usage. That’s on average 38% more battery capacity across 5-inch premium devices, and 72% higher capacity than the iPhone 6 battery.
Registration for the smartphone starts today on Flipkart, and the sale will begin April 30, 2015. Starting in May, Mi 4i will launch in Xiaomi’s other markets – Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The company also announced that the popular Mi Band is also coming to India. It will be sold exclusively on Mi.com at a price of Rs. 999. The Mi Band tracks exercise and also monitors sleep patterns. It can also automatically unlock Mi phones and Android 5.0 devices.
