Ending months of leaks and speculations around a new Mi phone, Xiaomi Co-founder Lei Jun has posted a picture on Chinese social media platform Weibo in the form of a teaser and revealed the February 20 launch date.
In addition to the post, Xiaomi’s Weibo account has also shared an image with Roy Wang who is a member of band The Fighting Boys (TFBoys) and is also a Chinese singer-songwriter and a TV host. Wang is seen holding a Mi 9 which reveals three camera setup at the back of smartphone arranged in vertical manner along with an LED flash.
At the right side of the phone, there are volume rockers and the power button. A single button is positioned on the left which when pressed could trigger smart assistants, similar to the Bixby button in Samsung phones.
‘Mi 9 flagship will come with a fast charging speed as compared to the Redmi Note 7's 18W charger, Jun emphasised.
According to the media reports, the Mi 9 is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, X24 modem supporting 5G. The 6GB/128GB variant is expected to cost Rs 31,400 in India.
According to Counterpoint Research, as the overall Indian mobile phone shipments grew by 11 per cent and smartphone shipments grew by 10 per cent in 2018, Xiaomi with 28 per cent share holds the top spot in the Indian smartphone market.
With 24 per cent, Samsung stood second in smartphone shipments in CY 2018.
