Xiaomi’s upcoming smartphone is neither an affordable phone nor a Redmi series device, but will be a category defining phone in its own. Called as Black Shark 2, it is Xiaomi’s gaming device which is scheduled to launch on May 27 in India. The Black Shark 2 will be the second gaming phone in the Indian smartphone market after ASUS ROG phone.
The Black Shark 2 will be available on Flipkart. The e-commerce giant has posted on Instagram revealing the availability of Black Shark 2 on its platform under the new ‘Flipkart Edge’ programme.
Earlier this year, the Black Shark 2 was launched in China with a unique Gamepad 2.0 controller along with other accessories. As for the specs, the smartphone comes with a 6.39-inch OLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor clubbed with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The company could also launch a special case that will allow users to attach two controllers, like in Nintendo Switch.
The Black Shark 2 sports a 48MP primary rear camera along with a 12MP 2x optical zoom camera. There will be a 20MP selfie camera. The smartphone will be fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery with 27W fast charging support.
In China, the Black Shark 2 costs CNY 3,200 (approx. Rs 33,000) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB variant and the 12GB RAM + 256GB version is priced at CNY 4,200 (approx. 42,500). We don’t think pricing would be such in India, considering the way Xiaomi positions itself in India.
According to a report by CyberMedia Research, gaming smartphones are projected to reach 6.5 per cent of the total smartphone shipments in the India by 2021.
The smartphone companies now find themselves in a strong position to bet on improving the mobile gaming experience, through features like HDR and high refresh rate screens for seamless on-screen visuals.
