With intentions to expand to Android, Elon Musk's X (previously Twitter) has introduced audio and video calling exclusively for X Premium (Twitter Blue) subscribers on iOS. Calls can be received by free users with configurable settings.
The company's take on launching this feature
"We're launching a new means of communication on X, audio and video calling," X stated in a statement on the platform. On iOS, audio and video calling are now possible, and it will soon be possible on Android as well."
Notably, if you use X for free, you can still get calls. You can decide who can call you by changing your direct messaging settings. By default, you can get calls from people you follow or have in your address book. But there is a rule: to make a call, both people need to have sent direct messages to each other at least once.
How to use audio and video features on X?
- Go to direct messages.
- Select an active conversation or start a new one.
- Click on the phone symbol.
- Select Audio call and Video call by tapping the right icon.
- The person you are calling will be notified, and if they do not answer, they will be notified.
In August, Musk said the X would accept voice and video calls. It is part of turning the old Twitter into a general-purpose app. These features work on iPhones, Android phones, Macs, and regular computers. You don't need a phone number to use them.
To manage call settings in X, follow these steps: First, tap the envelope icon to access the message. Then click on the settings in the upper right corner to open the message settings. In these settings, you can specify whether you want to enable the voice and video calling function or not. If you enable it, you can decide who can call you, including people in your address book, people you follow, and verified users.
What does X Premium exactly offer and how much does it cost in India?
With the recent addition of X Premium, you can now have exclusive access to app modifications and new features, giving you greater creative control over how you use X and create content.
In India, Twitter Blue is a premium service that costs Rs 650 per month for online use and Rs 900 per month for mobile use. Other countries where Twitter Blue is accessible are the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
