Usually, Windows 10 updates are a thing of dread for many. But this time for gamers, the Windows 10 May update is probably something to look forward to, with their new Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling feature.
This update has to be paired with the latest driver update for Nvidia and AMD. For Nvidia it is the 451.48 driver and for AMD it is the 20.5.1 Beta. Both these updates are available, but as for the Windows update, it is being rolled out slowly and isn’t available to everyone yet.
To enable HAGS, the first step, of course, is to download the updates. Next, right click on your desktop and select display settings. Next, scroll to the bottom and click “Graphics settings”. You will then see an option to toggle Hardware Accelerated GPU Settings on and off.
This new feature is reportedly more helpful towards budget hardware than top end hardware. For example, the GTX 1660 benefits more from this than RTX 2080 does. Wccftech ran some tests and here are their results.
The HAGS works by takes away some load off of your CPU. This means that if your CPU is the source of the bottleneck, it is definitely worth switching HAGS on.
