Multiplayer Online Battle Arena or MOBA is one of the most popular gaming genres. Games like LOL, WoW, and DOTA2 have huge followings and communities based around them but none of them have been able to deliver the one key aspect that was becoming necessary as time moved on. That one key aspect was a cross over to mobile gaming.
Games like Arena of Valor or Mobile Legends: Bang Bang were already making their mark on Mobile Gaming by offering mobile users true MOBA gaming experience but just like WoW or LoL these were also limited to only mobile players.
This is where Vainglory changed the game. For those who may not know, Vainglory is a free-to-play video game with in-game purchases, developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp for iOS and Android. The game is also available on Steam for PC players making it the only MOBA game that can be played both on smartphones and PC. The idea behind Vainglory is quite simple, give players a true MOBA experience on both PC and smartphone.
VainGlory Gameplay Review:
Vainglory starts off like any other MOBA game. There is a map on which two teams, each with 5 players will fight each other to take control of the map and the enemy team base. That does not mean players won’t have a good time playing the game. There are some unexpected surprises hidden in the lanes of the map filled with wild creatures that will come out and attack the players if they are disturbed. Again, like any good MOBA, Vainglory is also based on strategies.
In the game, each team has five players with each of them having their own avatars. These avatars are known as heroes. There are 52 different heroes in Vainglory with different abilities and powers. Players can unlock these Heroes by playing the game and increasing their rankings.
There are NPC or non-player characters called Minions in Vainglory. These little guys are going to stop the enemy team from advancing by stopping them in the lanes of the map and shooting low powered but a very effective barrage of attacks. Behind these Minions are the turret towers that are in each lane connecting to the enemy base. These Turret Towers not only stop the advancing of enemy players but also enemy minions.
The objective of each team is to go through the minions attack barrage, destroy the turret towers, and reach the enemy team base to destroy the Vain Crystal. The team who is able to destroy the Vain Crystal first wins.
VainGlory Summary:
Vainglory is not the most original MOBA available on mobile and PC but it does make up for it by offering players a game that follows the footsteps of LoL and DOTA 2. The game mechanics are well balanced and the power scaling is also well polished.
