UFS 3.1 vs UFS 4.0

The Galaxy S24 series from Samsung is expected to be one of the first big flagship debuts next year. The entire series is expected to have new chipsets and designs. Among the enhancements, the standard Galaxy S24 is said to have slower UFS 3.1 (Universal Flash Storage). This could be part of Samsung's cost-cutting strategy, as the South Korean smartphone manufacturer is widely expected to keep the costs of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra phones the same as their Galaxy S23 predecessors.

Galaxy S24

According to a fresh claim on the South Korean blog Naver, the 128GB version of the Galaxy S24 will come with UFS 3.1 storage. The rest of the range is expected to include UFS 4.0 storage. UFS 3.1 storage is slower than UFS 4.0 storage, built on Samsung's 7 V-NAND memory. In May last year, Samsung announced UFS 4.0 with higher speeds and improved power efficiency. It can perform sequential reads at up to 4,200MB per second and sequential writes at up to 2,800MB per second. Nowadays, most flagships employ either UFS 3.1 or UFS 4.0 storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 128GB model employs UFS 3.1.

Other than this model, all other Galaxy S23 models include UFS 4.0 storage. This decision could be intended to keep the existing Galaxy S23 lineup's pricing structure for the new models. According to recent reports, the Galaxy S24 series will cost the same as the Galaxy S23 series.

Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra
