After the recent wave of Esports’s own MeToo movement, many gaming companies have tightened their grip around their harassment policies, including hate speech. After Dr Disrespect got reportedly permanently banned about two days ago (the reason is still a mystery), Twitch has now temporarily banned the campaign channel of US President Donald Trump.
The suspension is said to have to do with Trump’s channel violating hate speech norms. Just recently, Donald Trump’s Twitch campaign channel, donaldtrump had aired his 2016 rally where he called Mexicans rapists and criminals. Another video is from his Tulsa rally in which Trump spoke hypothetically of "a very tough hombre" breaking into the house of a "young woman."
ATwitch spokesperson said in a statement, "Hateful conduct is not allowed on Twitch. In line with our policies, President Trump's channel has been issued a temporary suspension from Twitch for comments made on stream, and the offending content has been removed."
This comes after even Reddit banned the largest pro trump sub r/The_Donald on the same day. The length of suspension of Donald Trump’s Twitch account has not been announced yet.
