Survive Lockdown: Small businesses can now update and notify store timings on Google

Coronavirus crisis and the ensuing lockdown measure have thrown some unprecedented challenges for the people and small businesses across the country.

People are scrambling for groceries, daily supplies, and medicines, as necessity shops in the neighbourhood have either kept their shutters down or just operating for a couple of hours every day.

Businesses are also suffering as they are not being able to communicate the changes in their timings or unavailability of certain products effectively to the customers.

To help these small businesses overcome this unprecedented challenge, Google India has rolled out a few easy-peasy updates and guidelines which will help them to engage with their customers effectively and make it convenient for them to pick up their daily items without any hiccups.

Businesses can use this feature to share important updates with customers, for example, changed timings, safety and hygiene practices, and new services such as delivery or pre-order. Google has also shared a detailed guideline for businesses on how to access and enable the new features.

Change store timings:

Change opening and closing hours or Mark your business/shop locations as 'temporarily closed'.

Here’s how:  

-Open Google My Business on your computer or smartphone. Open the location you’d like to manage.

-Click 'Info' from the menu.

-Next to "Add hours" or your current business hours, click Hours.

-Turn on each day of the week that your business is open.

-Click Opens at, and then select the opening time.

-Click Closes at, and then select the closing time.

-Click Apply.

-Mark 'temporarily closed', if applicable. Please do not mark as permanently closed, if it's just a temporary measure.

Change dining modes for Restaurants:

You can enable and disable dining modes and update customers regarding available options on Google Search and Maps.

Here’s how: 

-Open Google My Business on your computer or smartphone. Open the location you’d like to manage.

-Click 'Info' from the menu

-Find 'Add Attributes' and click 'Edit'. Search for the attribute you want to add, or scroll through all the available options for your business.

-Under 'Dining options' click once to enable dining modes, and a second time to disable. Available dining modes include 'Takeout', 'Delivery', etc.

-Click Apply. New attributes will be visible on Google Search and Maps.
