Server consolidation and storage deployment led to easy data management, better space utilization and remarkable cost savings in power/energy and OS licensing cost at First American
- Preeti Gaur
First American provides financial services through its Title Insurance and Services segment and its Specialty Insurance segment. The First American Family of Companies’ core business line includes title insurance and closing/settlement services; title plant management services; title and other real property records and images; valuation products and services; home warranty products; property and casualty insurance; and banking, trust, and investment advisory services.
Challenges
Different teams were facing challenges in accessing data stored in multiple storage servers. Moreover, the server/storage was out of warranty and year on year maintenance costs were increasing. Continuing with the older hardware was high risk as availability concerns were there in case of any failure.
The Implementation
First American India FAI implemented two EMC VNXe 3100 storage units with Remote Protection Suite. Other technologies used were - CIFS File Sharing, LACP Configuration, Snapshot backups and Remote Replication.
The Result
Apart from the ease of data management and high availability & reliability, the organization gained 80% space reduction in terms of infrastructure foot print, 60-70% cost savings in power/energy and savings in Windows Server OS Licensing cost.
