Samsung Galaxy Fold, the South Korean giant’s category-defining smartphone that offers users a new way to multitask, play games and watch videos has finally got a launch date. The smartphone will launch in India on October 1.
Soon after Samsung announced the Galaxy Fold, and it was sent to media for the first reviews, Bomberg’s Mark Gurman, CNBC’s Steve Kovach, The Verge’s Dieter Bohn and popular YouTube tech reviewer Marques Brownlee took to Twitter sharing photos of the display issues encountered by them within a couple of days of use.
The Galaxy Fold was seen as a failed launch from Samsung. ‘It is embarrassing. I pushed it through before it was ready,’ said DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung Electronics to The Independent.
‘Owing to the smartphone’s design, a folding test was significant to check for the Galaxy Fold durability. During week-long testing, the Galaxy Fold survived 200,000 folds and unfolds (or around five years of use, if used 100 times a day).
The Galaxy Fold opens smoothly and naturally, like a book, and closes flat and compact with a satisfying click. To make sure, the Galaxy Fold opens seamlessly, Samsung designed a sophisticated hinge with multiple interlocking gears, which is housed in a hidden enclosure. The ultimate multitasking device, the Galaxy Fold can open up to three active apps simultaneously on the main display allowing you to surf, text, work, watch and share without losing a beat.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Fold with a high-powered, next-generation AP chipset and 12GB of RAM. The Galaxy Fold is also capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShare, while connected to a regular charger so you can leave your second charger at home.
For photography, the Galaxy Fold comes with a 10MP selfie camera with an f2.2 aperture at the cover. At the rear, the Galaxy Fold has a triple camera setup consisting of an f2.2 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera with super-speed dual pixel AF, OIS, f1.5/f2.4 and a 12MP telephoto camera with PDAF, OIS, f2.4, 2X optical zoom. There is a dual-camera at the front dual camera – a 10MP selfie camera with f2.2 and an 8MP RGB depth camera with f1.9 aperture.
