The PC Gaming launcher war essentially started when Epic decided to give Steam a competition by striking deals with developers and publishers. Most of them were either exclusivity deals or delayed release deals, where a game would be released on Epic games launcher first and then on Steam. This lead to more platforms popping up, like EA's Origin and Blizzard's Battle.net. But unlike Epic and Steam, they hosted games from the developer itself. Now Rockstar has joined the war, and they have come in with guns blazing.
Rockstar is offering GTA San Andreas for free with the download of their launcher.
You can download the Rockstar Games launcher for free from their website. The launcher is a one stop shop for everything Rockstar. Here you can buy games like Max Payne 3 and both of the Read Dead Redemption games (for consoles of course) and also premium in game currency for GTA V. The launcher will also feature cloud saves, automatic game updates and support for disc based and digital copies bought from other stores.
What it bodes for Rockstar Games on other platforms.
As of now, it is not yet clear if they will go Epic Games' way and buy exclusivity or delayed release rights as they have done for many popular games. Case in point: Metro Exodus. It is also not clear how they will handle the release of their own games. Red Dead Redemption 2 is rumored to be coming on PC, but whether Rockstar will make it exclusive to their platform or have a delayed release on Steam or not is yet to be seen. How their titles on Steam will fare is also not yer known.
But until then, enjoy your free copy of GTA San Andreas, one of the most popular games ever made.
