Transcend recently announces three external drives for Mac users Transcend StoreJet300 and Transcend StoreJet500, which we received for review. The Transcend StoreJet 100 drive has 2 TB of capacity as well as covered from a tough rubberised jacket and internal damper frame, which makes it tough.
The StoreJet 100 is a portable hard drive comes with a Micro-USB 3.0 port and a One Touch Auto-Backup Button, a blue-ringed push button on the end cap that is designed to simplify the backing up of data to the drive. To work, it requires you to first install the included Transcend Elite software, which can undertake various tasks such as on-demand and scheduled backups.
If you want to use the One-Touch feature, first install the software on your Mac and create your own backup task. The software also has some other features like Bookmark Sync, which will copy your Safari bookmarks to the drive; Cloud, which enables copying to a Google Drive online server; and Crypto, to encrypt and decrypt chosen files and folders. The hard drive gets a ruggedness rating by its maker of MIL-STD-810F 516.5-Transit Drop Test, meaning it can withstand being dropped 26 times onto a hard floor from a height of 1.22 m.
In our testing, the external rugged drive did well and resulted with 122.4 MB/s read and 109.8 MB/s write speed. The speed is not extraordinary, yet near about the other drives from Transcend for Mac.
