An analog activity tracker, Metropolitan+ is TIMEX’s foray into the connected style collection. It encapsulates the beauty of a traditional watch and the functionality of an all-day activity tracker
Design and Features
As can be expected from a Timex watch, it sure is a high quality watch and is made from high quality materials. Timex Metropolitan+ is an activity tracker smart watch and measures your steps, distance, calories and how far you have travelled on a daily basis and at the same time is an elegant looking analog watch.
It has bluetooth and can be linked to your smartphone via Timex Connected app available on both Android and Apple App Stores. The phone app stores all of your data, so you can access and analyze it at any time.
The Timex Metropolitan+ comes in two unique styles. One watch has a silver-tone case, a black dial with red accents and a textured leather strap. The other variation features a black case with a black dial and orange accents and comes with interchangeable black silicone and orange nylon straps. Both styles feature quick-release straps so you can easily change your look. The watch come with an additional orange strap and are easy to replace.
To turn on push in the crown located at 3 o'clock position. At the top left between 10 and 11 o'clock you will find a small sub-dial that tells you which mode the watch is presently in. There is S(Steps),D(distance), Bluetooth(turns the watch on) and Off(turns off the activity tracking). The button A at 2 o'clock lets you switch between these modes.
At the bottom sub-dial located between 3 and 6 o'clock it displays how far you have traveled percentage wise. This comes in handy when you have set a goal for yourself like 2 miles or more for a daily basis. Just feed that information into the app and it lets you know how far you have gone in percentage to keep up with your goal. The other hand with orange tip counts the number of steps.
Performance
I have been using this watch for a past 15 days or so and I did like the watch. Once you have downloaded the app and to sync it with the smartphone, the app will tell you to bring the watch in Bluetooth mode. You can do this by holding the button A at 2 o'clock position for a few seconds until it points to bluetooth icon. Once the synchronization is done, it will display miles, steps, and an estimation of calories burned in horizontal bar graphics along with numerical values. You can set the app to view your stats, daily, monthly or yearly. The watch stores your tracked information only for a period of seven days, so you need to sync regularly if you don't want to lose your stats.
You may switch between the Steps and Distance modes by pressing button A.
If the upper sub-dial hand is on “S” the lower sub-dial hand will reflect the percentage of your daily Steps goal currently achieved and the 4th center hand will reflect the actual number of steps (in thousands) you have taken today, when compared against the scale along the outer edge of the dial.
If the upper sub-dial hand is on “D” the lower sub-dial hand will reflect the percentage of your daily Distance goal currently achieved and the 4th center hand(hand with red tip) will reflect the actual distance (in Miles or Kilometers as selected on the Smartphone application) you have achieved, based on your activity today, when compared against the scale along the outer edge of the dial.
For example if the 4th center hand points to 6 o'clock, and you have the watch set to steps, you've walked 6,000 steps.
Unlike other smart watches that have to be charged, Timex Metropolitan has built in battery that will last for upto 1.5 years without charge. It is also 50 meter water resistant and has Indiglo feature to see the watch dial in dark areas. The blue light emitted is not overly bright, but is crystal clear enough allowing you see watch bezel dial in night. Just hold the crown button for a second to turn on the Indiglo feature.
In the watch control you can feed in your personal info like height, weight, age etc. In the app settings, you can set all you goals like distance, calories, steps and an alias for your watch if you want to.
The watch will go through periodic firmware updates and there will be a new update in the spring 2016 that will allow the watch will monitor your sleep!
