Spice’s new offering Fire One smartphone runs on Firefox OS and has a 3.5 inch 320×480p resolution bright display. It doesn’t support different viewing angles and is difficult to use under direct sunlight. The phone looks pretty solid, though the entire body is made with glossy plastic. Firefox OS supports the device to perform different tasks, but app crashes and lags are frequent. Occasionally, the screen becomes unresponsive and you need to restart the phone. Multitasking with this phone requires lot of patience, however the touch screen performs well.
Fire One comes with basic preloaded apps that allow users to operate the device. Other apps and games are available at the ‘Marketplace’ (doesn’t support Android play store), yet users can download popular Android apps via third party apps like ConnectA2 or Loqui IM. However, it’s pretty unstable and unpredictable.
It packs 1GHz single core processor and 128 MB RAM. With only 256 MB ROM, it’s better to add a memory card (up to 4 GB microSD) as adding more apps or games would deteriorate the performance. The speaker’s sound quality is adequate for occasionally listening to music but it is tinny and muffled.
It boasts a 1.3 MP rear camera with flash and VGA at the front. The image quality of both cameras is below average. Fire One is backed with a 1400 mAh battery, which lasts for about 7 hours on regular usage and in our video test, it lasted for 1 hour 18 minutes.
