Panasonic Eluga Icon is the latest addition from Panasonic to the budget smartphone range. Well the Indian market is already tight with smartphone manufacturers from all over the world like Yureka Plus from Micromax, Redmi Note from Xiaomi, Lenovo K3 Note and Huawei Honor 4X having already released models under this price range.
Design and Display
Looks wise it has a simple unibody design with glossy back panel. The phone feets in hand properly, On the left side it has a SIM card slot and a microSD slot while on the right side it has power, volume rocker keys and second SIM slot. The SIM and microSD slot are covered by a very thin flap that could break easily after some use. At the bottom of the screen are three touch sensitive buttons for home, menu and back that respond well. But these buttons doesn't have back LED lights.
It has a 5.5-inch IPS HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The screen is sharp and produces rich colors and good brightness levels. Users also have a color temperature adjustment option. The HD display is good on wide angle viewing.
Responsive camera
It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. You have face detection, continuous shot mode as well as the option to control the camera with your voice. There are full manual controls with options to adjust exposure, contrast, brightness, white balance and ISO. Shooting modes include HDR, face beauty, panorama and a PIP (picture in picture) mode. Image quality is excellent with sharp details, natural colour and minimal noise. In low light, noise levels increase substantially but the results were still good enough to be viewed on the phone or shared online. The front 8MP camera is good for selfies if there is ample light around you. The loudspeaker as well as the in-ear voice speaker is loud and clear. Images are good in day light but have visible noise in low light.
Average performance and good battery life
Panasonic has taken care of a common issue with this phone's battery life. The Eluga Icon comes with a massive 3,500mAh battery despite the slim and light frame. With normal usage including camera, multimedia playback, calls, social networking, two email accounts, constant 3G/WiFi connectivity and 60% screen brightness, the phone regularly lasted us two full days.
Hardware configuration of this smartphone includes a 64-bit 1.5Ghz Octa core Mediatek processor, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage and a microSD slot that is expandable up to 32 GB. For connectivity it comes with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth. In our usage, the phone worked well for day-to-day usage like 10-15 calls, using social media and browsing etc. But when it comes to playing graphics intensive games like Asphalt 8 and Dead trigger 2,this phone fails completely. It disappoints game lovers.
We also run some of bechmarks and the smartphone score is:
