Oppo Neo 7 is the latest Android offering from Chinese smartphone maker Oppo.
Good looking stylish phone
Oppo Neo 7 features stylish design and sleek profile. The smartphone unit we received was in pearl white color covered with golden rim across the edges. It looks elegant and gives the feel of a high-end device. The smartphone is only 7.55mm thick but feels slippery at times. The back panel is glossy, made out of durable plastic, but attracts smudges a little. The back cover can be removed to add SIM and microSD card but the battery is non-removable.
5-inches display
It has a 5-inch display with 540X960p resolution which is major letdown in this price segment. It produces 16 million colors and has 332 lux brightness. Brightness level of this phone is another disappointment and users will feel the same while using it under direct sunlight. This phone supports multi-touch up to 10 fingers at a time which is rarely seen in the budget smartphone category.
Comes at budget price but offers high-end experience
The smartphone review unit of Neo 7 is powered by 1.2GHz Quad-core Qualcomm MSM8916 processor (for 4G version only), paired with 1 GB RAM, and runs on Android 5.1 with customised ColorOS 2.1 skin over it. The phone runs smoothly while operating but little lag is expected while switching between apps. The phone has 16 GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 128 GB. Oppo has added a new feature to the UI, called lock screen magazine which shows new wallpaper on the lock screen every time you switch on the screen.
In our benchmarking, it scores 4562 on 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme, 57 on 3DMark Sling Shot, 25436 on AnTuTu, 2099 on Vellamo and 13388 on Quadrant.
The shooter
The phone is equipped with 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and 5 MP front camera. The rear camera captures good images in the daylight and produces sharp and detailed images, but the performance suffers under low-light condition. The front 5 MP shooter is perfect for selfie and groufie.
Powerful battery
The device is backed by a 2420 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery which is enough to last for a day or about 10 hours under moderate usage. Using the AnTuTu battery benchmark it took 2 hours 28 min to consume 40 per cent battery and scores 7,126. In our video test it lasted 6 hours and 12 minutes with full brightness and volume.
