The smartphone industry has seen various developments in past few months and this time, LG come with a new modular design with its G5. The New LG G5 has an innovative modular design which could be a risk because the modular smartphone market is new. But still, a great and brave step as no other smartphone company has such a modular design.
It is not like Google Project Ara but still LG played smartly. G5 lets you swap its bottom part to add some cool pieces of stuff such as LG Cam Plus, additional battery, and Hi-Fi Plus, a DAC module built by Bang and Olufsen. The Rs 6,500 LG cam Plus comes with a separate shutter button and a dial for zoom, for both photos and videos. The DAC module gives you 32-bit audio and an extra headphone jack. I think LG should have to add some broad range of cooler add-ons because currently available add-ons are not enough to attract consumers.
Build with metal: G5 has a metal body with slightly curved edges to enhance the looks. It looks premium and fits easily in one hand. The silver gray metallic finish on the top of the body give it attractive looks. It feels quite solid in hands and has a great balance in dimensions making it comfortable to use.
The vibrant display: It has a 5.3-inch IPS In Cell Touch display which comes with always-on feature easing your use. You can easily check the time, date, or other notifications. The screen supports 1440x2560 pixel and protected by Gorilla Glass 4, meaning no scratches but we were able to see some smudges.
The dual-lense camera: The phone has dual camera setup at the rear with laser autofocus window, flash and color sensor. A 16 MP lens along with an 8 MP lens at the rear and has an 8-MP camera at the front. The camera is capable to capture 4K videos. The rear lens is perfect to capture detailed images with vibrant colors in any lighting condition. It comes with various modes as well as allows you to capture wider images. The front shooter is also great for selfies and groufies.
Excellent device
The phone is packed with a powerful combination of hardware. It has Quad core Snapdragon 820 processor combined with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. It runs smoothly without any performance lag. We played various games such as Asphalt Airborne, Mortal combat x, etc. and there was no lag in the performance while switching between apps. The things you do all day on your phone such as browsing, gaming,YouTube, multiple apps running are mostly smooth and lag-free.
The phone has 32 GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256 GB, meaning you have plenty of space for your photos, videos, and other stuff. For security, the power button houses a fingerprint sensor at back. It runs on LG's UX 5.0 based on the Android latest version i.e. 6.0.1 with no app drawer like Xiaomi and Huawei phones.
The phone has only 2800 mAh battery that surely seems less as most of the device now coming with 3000 mAh battery but thankfully it is capable to deliver juice for the whole day on decent usage. It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. In our video test, it was able to last for more than 4 hours and 30 minutes playing video over wi-fi with full volume and brightness.
