This budget smartphone has a striking new interface but is priced higher than you’d expect
Huawei enters into the most competitive smartphone segment with its interesting device Honor 3C. The sleek body with smart dimensions makes it easy to hold. The 5-inch display has a striking inteface as well.
Average build quality: The 5 inch 720p LTPS display is built with the Low Temperature PolySilicon technology that allows for faster movement of electrons. The rear 8 MP camera comes with Sony sensor, a f/2.0 lens and LED flash. Three capacitive buttons below the display manage the entire operations easily. Unfortunately, these buttons don’t have lights to make them visible in low light. The 3.5mm jack is placed at the top and USB port at the bottom. The all-plastic body phone looks elegant and fits easily into the pocket. The glossy finish rear attracts smudges a little, but thankfully not the scratches. The speaker placement at the rear causes muffled sound when placed on a surface.
Easy to navigate, nimble touch response: The Honor 3C runs on previous Android 4.2.2 over Emotion UI 2.0. The interface offers plenty of options and works smoothly with the phone. The unique home-screen layout, called Simple, offers an amazing experience through larger touch points for the users. The Emotion UI 2.0 interface allows you to choose and customise themes. You can adjust colour temperature and make it warmer/cooler depending on your preference. You can also block specific apps from accessing mobile data or Wi-Fi. You can also choose to block certain apps from running automatically when you switch on the phone and stop notifications.
Power-packed performance: The Huawei Honor 3c is backed by a 1.3 GHz quad core MediaTek MT6582 processor, 2GB of RAM and a Mali 400 GPU that makes it a powerful device for multitasking. Using several apps and games simultaneously was a cool experience and there was no lag even while playing heavy games. In AnTuTu benchmark, the phone scores - 18916, in Quadrant - 5782, Vellamo – 1427 and in 3DMark – 2903, which makes it a strong contender in the segment.
The rear 8 MP camera produces detailed images that are better than most of the competitors. Though noise is visible in snaps, it captures sharp images of moving objects. However, the performance is average in low light condition. The front 5 MP camera is also a decent performer for video chat and selfies.
The screen delivers nice contrast ratio and brightness level and good viewing angles. You can easily share the screen with your friends and family and enjoy the contents together.
The dual SIM smartphone comes with 8 GB expandable internal memory, powered by 2300 mAh battery that can run easily for a day (7-8 hours). In our battery test, it lasted for 4 hours and 26 minutes while playing video in full brightness and volume.
