HP brings one more all-in-one printer, but its not a usual AIO, it’s a smart ink tank printer. The HP Smart Tank AIO printer is designed to provide best-in-class print quality for home users. As most of us are working from home and schools are also operating online. In most of the cases we require printed docs or scanned docs for different purposes, HP Smart Tank 515 cater to these issues.
The compact machine
It looks similar to any other HP AIO printers, yet it’s different at the front. The ink tank is integrated at the front, on left you can see Cyan Magenta and Yellow colours’ tanks. On the right side, a large black ink tank is placed.
In terms of size, it is a compact machine, yet slightly larger than other HP AIO printers as it holds ink tanks inside. You may have seen Epson Ink tank printers carrying ink tanks out of the body, that looks odd. But that’s not the case with HP, it looks beautiful.
A LED display, along with power, scan, and copy buttons is present on the top front of the printer. The printer comes with two regular ink cartridges, but these cartridges get colours from the ink tanks. The one thing which I found awkward is paper tray, though its hidden beautifully, but the paper lock and insertion is little difficult.
Features
HP Smart Tank is powered by a new sensor-based Ink Tank technology that alerts the user before the ink runs out. The printer has a compact design so you can set it up at your desk. The printer has the ink tank integrated into the unit that makes it stylish and compact.
Thanks to integrated Smart Tank, 515 can give an output of 6000 pages (black)/8000 pages (colour). Hence it can easily handle high-volume printing, plus HP claims it offers a 38% faster printing speed. Being smart, this AIO provides enhanced mobile experience and connectivity through dual-band Wi-Fi, HP Smart mobile print app and Bluetooth LE.
HP Smart Tank 515 also features the Wi-Fi Direct capability that lets the smartphone connect to the printer without the need for internet network.
Setup
It’s a wireless AIO printer, you can setup the printer quite easily. The AIO unit comes with two cables – power and USB. Connect both cables to the printer and then power and PC. Just follow the simple steps and its done.
You can setup the printer with your Wi-Fi for wireless print, scan, etc. Download the HP smart software and follow the on-screen instructions, it will be done in 3-4 steps.
Performance
We tested its printing capability, in our standard ISO test with 5% ink coverage, it printed 5 A4 pages in about 1 min and 27 sec with the first page out in 15 seconds. While printing 100 pages, it took 17 min 23 secs. We got 1 photo page print in approx 2 min 46 sec of A4 size and 6X4 inch photo out in about 40 sec with 300 DPI.
The test included text pages, graphics pages and pages with mixed content for both black and white. The output quality is excellent and text looked sharp and detailed. The print quality of the image comes with good amount of details and sharpness.
The optical resolution of the scanner is 1200 dpi (dots per inch is a unit of optical resolution). It scanned an A4 image in just 17 sec with good amount of details and took around 4 min 37 sec at 1200 DPI with whole lot of details and vibrant colors, and only 40 sec to copy a A4 page.
