HP has knack of bringing innovative solutions to the businesses. This time, we got a chance to review, HP’s new ScanJet Pro 4500fn1 Flatbed Scanner which is designed to meet high-quality scanning needs quickly.
Innovative design for flexibility and easiness
This network scanner can ease your daily scanning job as it is designed to scan multiple sheets. This is capable of scanning 4000 sheets per day. There are two trays, the top tray holds the sheets of various sizes easily and once the scanning is done, sheets comes to the second tray. Meaning neither you need to feed the scanner for every single sheet, nor you need to worry to catch the scanned pages. It manages everything automatically.
ScanJet Pro 4500fn1 also supports two side scanning without turning the page manually. With one single scan, you can copy images present on both the sides and it comes with a touchscreen. This allows you to scan any documents even without connecting it to the PC and send the scanned document to the network or connected PCs or email.
Connectivity
This scanner has built-in Ethernet and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, letting you connect it to your network. You can wirelessly operate the device for scanning and sharing. For mobile devices, HP JetAdvantage Capture app is available which lets you do almost everything, from scanning to sending the scans. Using the app you can also edit scanned files, as well as monitor and manage jobs.
Performance
The 4500fn1 is rated to produce up to 60 images (30 pages) per minute with two-sided scanning—recommended for 4000 sheets per day. Setting up the scanner is easy, you just need to install the software on your PC and connect LAN or Wi-Fi. If you are using the App then you need to connect the device to the same network which you are using with your smartphone.
During our three weeks of testing, we scanned mix of pages (includes images and texts). This supports up to 600 x 600 dpi (color and mono, ADF) and up to 1200 x 1200 dpi (color and mono, flatbed). The software lets you choose dpi while scanning any document or image. You can save the scans into various formats including JPEG, Pdf, etc. While using the app, you get max 300 dpi for scanning, by default, it comes with 200 dpi.
While scanning pages using PC it took only 4 seconds on 600 dpi for one image. We scanned 30 pages which took 1 min and while scanning 15 pages from both sides, it took only 46 seconds. Using the app It took about 1 minutes 56 seconds to scan 30 pages from both sides while 1 minute 32 seconds to scan 30 pages from single side.
To test its OCR accuracy, we scanned 5 documents and it delivered more than 96% accuracy in converting scanned documents into text. The only problem was, it got confused with “O” and most of the times it converted O into Q. In 60 words content, it missed O two times and converted into Q.
