The HP Officejet 7612 is a wide format multifunction printer that prints in sizes up to A3+. It has been designed for small and mid-sized businesses, and has a number of useful features for its target audience.
Handy Device with good features
The MFP comes in an all dark brown colour and adjustable LCD touch control panel with arrow buttons on either side. The 35 sheet ADF offers additional flexibility of hands free copying and scanning. The 250 sheet input tray is easily adjustable to suit different paper types and does not require constant refilling. It also features an Automatic Duplexer to print on both sides of paper.
Great Colour Reproduction
In standard ISO tests with 5% ink coverage, it printed 6 B/W pages in a minute with first page coming out in 16 seconds in Normal print mode. It printed 5 colour pages in a minute with first page out in 15 seconds in Normal print mode. Colour and text print quality is decent in Normal mode. When we repeated the test in Draft mode, the print speed increases but there is loss in quality. Text was visibly imperfect and colour shades looked faded.
In the Draft mode, MFP printed 16 B/W pages and 12 colour pages in a minute. We also combined a captured screen shot with text and the replication of screen shot was not impressive and lacked sharpness. After we reduced ink coverage to 5 lines of variable text and fired prints, the print speed increased to 30ppm. Thus, if you have documents having lesser ink coverage, it can print faster and increase the document workflow.
While copying, the MFP copied 6 B/W pages and 5 colour pages with good quality in a minute. We also printed various graphics and real world images and the quality delivered by the MFP was great with accurate colour reproduction.
One interesting feature uncommon to other MFPs that we noticed, was when a USB is plugged into the MFP and if it is connected to a PC with USB connection, the contents of USB are also shown in PC. USB device here acts in the same way as connected to a PC. If you want to print directly from USB, MFP recognises only two formats viz. jpeg and png. You cannot print word documents or excel workbooks directly from the USB.
The MFP can scan directly to email, PC folder or to a USB. It takes 13 seconds to scan a B/W page and 14 seconds for a colour page in pdf format to a PC. It can scan to e-mail in pdf, jpeg or tiff file formats. It took 38 seconds to complete the scan in pdf format for both colour and b/w page. You can also add contacts in address book while emailing a file thereby saving on the time to type email address everytime.
The tray system is not neatly designed and if not adjusted properly, the output tray can be a hindrance while inserting sheets in the input tray. The ink also does not lose colour when brought in contact with water. HPeprint, AirPrint all worked efficiently without any interruption. T
he MFP is Energy Star certified and can automatically push itself to sleep mode when not in use thereby optimising power consumption.
