Epson is among the top printer manufacturers, but it's reputation not only comes from it being one of the top brands. Epson keeps adding flavours to its devices. The new printer, which we got for review, has 9 color tanks. Yes, usually we see three color tanks and one black cartridge in all common printers, but it's different from others.
The main highlight of the printer is Epson’s UltraChrome HD ink. The ink technology makes the printer stand out of the crowd as it delivers unprecedented black density and true-to-life colour gradations and definitions.
Easy to set up and interesting features
The large format printer is quite easy to setup, just plugin the power and you can begin printing by operating the printer using 2.7-inch LCD panel. It also has USB connectivity to add and print directly, no PC required, but to utilise all the features, you need to add the printer into a PC or laptop.
It can easily setup in the existing network, enabling users to print wirelessly. It requires Apple AirPrint or Google Cloud Print to print whatever that’s on your screen. It comes with 100 Mbit Ethernet, Wi-Fi Direct and Wireless n1 connectivity features. The backlit 2.7-inch LCD touch panel enables users to access almost every function and control the device from the screen.
Awesome print quality
The printer supports 3 media print paths – top auto load, single sheet front load, and optional roll adapter, giving you freedom to use as per the requirement. We setup the printer on our lab's network and installed the software on our test PC. Its a large printer thus requires ample of space, especially when you add roll adapter. The trouble part is the roller is non-mechanized hence, you have to cut the paper manually.
We tested its printing capability on different papers – matte and gloss. In our standard ISO test with 5% ink coverage, it printed 5 A4 pages in only 18 sec with the first page out in 6 seconds. While testing the duplex printing, it printed 25 pages and missed 0 out of 25 in 54 seconds. In another single side printing, it took about 56 seconds to print 20 pages and missed 0 out of 25. There was not even a single mis-feed with the printer which is really awesome. The test included text pages, graphics pages and pages with mixed content for both black and white and color. The output quality is excellent and text looked sharp and detailed.
To test its photo print quality we used three different images two taken from DSLR (landscape and closeup) and one from a mobile camera. The print quality of all three images comes with vibrant colors and rich blacks on both photo and matte papers.
