Earlier this year, Canon brings its entry-level DSLR Canon EOS 3000D. Though smartphone industry is growing rapidly and the camera industry is in trouble, yet when it comes to sharp, vivid and natural images, then only a DSLR is the right choice. We tested the camera and here what we found about this…
Design
EOS 3000D looks identical to many canon cameras with the light body weighing just 389 grams. Also, the body is quite compact, enabling users to carry the camera along for the casual shoot. It is designed keeping the beginners in the mind, combining classical Canon design ethos with ease-of-use. The plastic body is solid enough to withstand short drops and offers good grip as well.
Controls
Canon tried to keep minimum buttons to make it easy to use. A smart dialer has several shooting modes, plus works as the power button. Another dial lets you control exposure. A 2.7-inch LCD display placed at the back.
The main body comes with standard EF S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II kit lens. The lens comes with built-in image stabilization. This might sound like a very basic lens, but for beginners, it can actually work really well if used the right way. It offers 3x zoom and the zoom and aperture rings are smooth and responsive.
Performance
Canon EOS 3000D offers basic functions suitable for beginners. It also comes with Wi-Fi making it easy to transfer images to your smartphone to share with your friends and family on Facebook and Instagram.
The 3000D comes with an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor which is 25 times larger than the sensor used in smartphone and has Canon’s DIGIC4+ image processor. It supports light sensitivity between 100-6400 ISO (128000 extended). EOS 3000D has features like 9 auto-focus points, a 3fps burst motor and can shoot videos in 1080p at 30fps and 720p and 60fps.
In broad daylight, the camera captures sharp images. It clicks noise-free quality images at ISO 100 to 800, though a little noise can appear at ISO 1600. The 18 MP APS-C sensor captures quite soft, sharp and quality images. At the default sharpening setting, it produces quite soft images, though in-camera sharpening level can be changed according to the tastes via the Picture Style options.
The EOS 3000D sports nine phase detect AF points, in which one is a cross-type sensor for more accurate focusing. The autofocus performed well in our lab tests in bright light and even in challenging subjects. The Auto Lighting Optimizer comes with four different setting Off, Low, Standard, and Strong. It enhances the processing to even out the contrast and correct brightness. Only, it struggles in lowlight conditions, where we noticed noise in the shots.
The camera offers video recording at 1080p on 30fps, but then that again is not ground-breaking. It’s suitable for some clips of your vacation or for basic YouTube videos.
EOS 3000D DSLR camera has LP-E10 860mAh battery that provides the battery backup of about 450-500 shots.
