Whether small or large enterprises, you can’t afford to lose your precious data. Though there are various data storage and plenty of backup solutions are available, and Barracuda is one of the solution-providers, which comes with a new backup solution, which can be deployed in virtual environments. You can pay as much as you consume, as per TB capacity subscription.
Barracuda Backup Virtual Appliance (Vx) is a software solution, hence deploying it in virtual environment won’t take long. You just require your virtual machine, where you can install the solution and then follow the instructions to set-it-up. The virtual environments leverage existing compute and storage infrastructures as well as optimizes local storage and bandwidth requirements with reduplication and compression.
The software has been designed keeping the future requirements in the mind. Vx comes with the scalability for growing environments. If a business requires a few TBs of backup today and later on they are looking for further enhancement, the solution let you do that without worrying about the cost and growing environments.
Barracuda Backup Vx lets you choose whether to replicate to the Barracuda Cloud or to a virtual receiver. Replication to the Barracuda Cloud includes “Unlimited” Cloud Storage and extended retention through offsite vaulting. It uses both inline target-based non-duplication and compression to reduce storage and bandwidth requirements, and easily scale storage as data grows, eliminating the need for forklift upgrades.
Smooth, Satisfactory Performer
Setting up the backup took 15 minutes, including the entire process from installation to adding it into our own environment. Though it can vary depending on the expertise and requirements, yet Barracuda kept it simple to operate. You get almost every option on the screen. Whether you want to setup for cloud or local, you have to just add your machine and then follow the instructions.
Once you have installed the backup Vx on the virtual environment, now to add another machine for the backup, you get another software that let two machines communicate with each other easily. You can schedule the backup as well as can manually do that.
We backed-up the entire machine, as well as some folders on both cloud and virtual machinery. It took about 2 hours to back up the entire machine, but as we had a lot of data, so we were expecting this much time to backup. However, it could be lower to higher depending on your machine’s data and other factors could also affect the speed and time. You also get the option to schedule the backup as per your needs, making your life easy. Restoring the data also took about 2 hours and again factors were there.
The dashboard lets you do various things such as allowing you to see the report of backup, restore, etc. You can update the firmware and change the settings of the appliance. To check its alert system, we put the machine in offline mode and immediately, we received the alert about the same.
