At the sub 10k price range, Asus tried to bring a different ZenFone Max phone that can become a power source to other smartphones or tablets, etc. This is backed by a 5000 mAH battery to provide juice, however, it's larger than other available smartphones in this price bracket but there are smartphones having a larger battery but at the higher price as well. So, you can say you get a smartphone with huge battery capacity at an affordable price.
Similar ZenFone Design
Max also looks similar to most of previous ZenFone devices from Asus. The back has a durable plastic cover with fox leather finish. The cover can be removed to place SIM and MicroSD but the battery is non-detachable. There is a gold rim across the body that enhances the beauty of the smartphone.
Vibrant display
The phone has a large 5.5-Inch (720 x 1280 pixels) screen with a 267 PPI density. The body to screen ratio is ~69.0% which lets you hold the device even in one hand easily. The display produces rich colors and has good brightness levels, 513 lux, that enables you to use the phone even in direct sunlight. The sharp screen has HD resolution which we were not expecting from this however we enjoyed watching videos and playing games, etc.
Decent camera
At the rear, it is equipped with a 13 Mp PixelMaster camera with dual tone LED flash to capture stunning images in both day and night. It clicks high-resolution photos with an aperture of f/2.0. It produces sharp and detailed image with natural colors. The camera OS has various modes and options to customise your photography experience with it. It has laser auto-focus feature that reduces blurring and enhances image stabilization. The primary camera also captures good quality videos with a 1080p resolution @30fps.
At the front, it has a 5 Mp shooter to click selfies and groufies. This also produces good quality images and comes with various modes including beautification mode to enhance the quality of the image.
Power packed with octa-core processor
The smartphone is backed by 64-bit Qualcomm processor clocking at 1.2 GHz and combined with 2 GB of RAM. The phone runs on Android Lollipop Version 5.0, Asus ZenUI on the top of it. The phone has 16 GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.
We used the device for more than two weeks and it runs smoothly. We also played different games like Real racing 3, Asphalt 8 Airborne, etc. and found no lag.
Massive battery with great backup
As the major highlight of the phone is its 5000 mAh battery, and the company is focusing on populating it in the market. In the moderate usage, this lasts for more than 3 days, playing games, Internet surfing, etc. In our video loop test, we played 3 movies continuously of total 4 hours 37 min with full brightness and full volume over Wi-Fi and found that only 50 % of the battery was consumed. Further, we charged 1 device with the capacity of 3000 mAh battery using this and it worked perfectly as a power bank.
