AMD’s graphics card, the Radeon R9 285, uses a brand-new core, the Tonga core. Loaded with the latest advancements in Graphics Core Next Architecture, including AMD Eyefinity Technology and support for the Mantle API, the AMD Radeon R9 285 GPU comes packed with the latest GCN Architecture innovations like support for DirectX12. Also, AMD TrueAudio Technology allows you to experience surround sound into every headset.
With Ultra Resolution Gaming, you can play games even on much larger screens. Whether using a 4k monitor or combining multiple HD monitors, you’ll get an expansive experience. It also has AMD HD3D Technology which is supported by an advanced and open ecosystem which in conjunction with specific AMD hardware and software technologies, enables 3D display capabilities for many PC applications and experiences.
You can play any game at a resolution of 1080p. The GPU lacks the raw power for prolific games, and the 2 GB graphics memory is simply not a good move in that WHQD resolution. Playing games like Thief, NFS, etc. on it is a pleasure. It is silent, cool and comes factory overclocked at a boost frequency of 918 MHz.
We tested the GPU on our test bed—3.0 GHz AMD Athlon II X2 250 CPU on Gigabyte motherboard, 4 DDR3 Kingston RAM, WD 500GB SATA HDD, Phillips LED monitor running on Windows 7 OS. It delivered good performance and scored P5027 on 3D Mark 11, 4078 on PC Mark Creative Accelerated 3.0, and 713 on Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0. Using the STALKER: Call of Pripyat benchmark, it resulted in max 279.8 and min 36.6 fps scores.
