Reliance Jio Phone 3 May Run on the New Android Go Edition

In the Reliance AGM 2020 one of the key aspects was the investment by Google in Jio. Google has been trying to make a bigger push in India for a long time. One of the announcements was of the new smartphone that Jio and Google will collaborate upon. This new smartphone will be a budget smartphone that will be developed by Jio and run on Android. Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai said in the video address about how Google is planning to make an OS that specifically caters to the needs of the Indian masses. Now it seems that the new Jio Phone 3 may come sooner than expected. 

Google has announced a new lightweight version of Android for devices that have 2GB of Ram or less. This new edition is called Android GO. On the web page of Android GO it says that this new version of Android will only be exclusive to the budget devices that are going to launch after the Q4 or fourth quarter of 2020. According to Google the new Android Go will offer users a powerful and smoother Android experience even on the low end devices. Google is also optimizing the app store for Android GO by introducing lightweight apps that don’t consume a lot of memory in the background. 

Many app developers have already optimized their apps to run on this new Android Go. Spotify has Spotify lite. Skype also has a skype lite and many Google apps also have a lighter version with the suffix Go attached to their names. The only difference now is that before Google did not require the lower Ram devices to run on Android Go but now it has become mandatory. Every new device that will launch in the market with less than or 2GB of Ram will have to use Android Go. It remains to be seen how this implementation will work but it does clear one thing, that Jio Phone 3 will be running on the new Android GO when it launches.
