Redmi launched a new variant of the Redmi 9 Power, the 6+128 variant. This is a newer edition to the Redmi 9 line-up which is targetted at the budget-segment market. With this phone, Redmi targets to cater to that consumer-base where people want power and performance at an affordable price.
Highlights:
- 48 MP Quad-camera Setup
- 6.53-inch IPS Full-HD+ display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 662
- UFS 2.2 Storage
Display
The Redmi 9 Power comes with a 6.53-inch Full HD+ display with a contrast ratio of 1500:1. The display comes with 400-nits brightness. It is also TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certified and is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3. The protection might seem old because of the newly launched Gorilla Glass 6 but the Gorilla Glass 3 is also very strong and durable. It is capable of protecting the phone from low falls and damages.
Camera
The camera module is pretty elaborate and comes with all the necessary and fancy lenses on board. The primary camera is a 48-megapixel primary shooter. It is accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens that sounds promising and is definitely better than the 5-megapixel shooter other phones in this segment are offering. Apart from that, the camera module has two other lenses, a macro camera and a depth sensor, both of which are 2-megapixel shooters which have become the new standard. The front-facing camera is an 8-megapixel shooter which can take decent pictures.
Processor and Storage
The Redmi 9 Power is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor which is an octa-core processor that has a boost clock frequency of up to 2 GHz. The Qualcomm Adreno 610 GPU is capable of providing a decent performance in games and can handle them pretty well. The LPDDR4x up to UFS 2.2 storage can provide good speeds and a snappy experience while using the phone.
Security
The security on the phone is pretty standard by today's norms. The phone can be unlocked with the side-mounted fingerprint scanner which is fast and responsive most of the time. Users also have the option of unlocking the phone with the face unlock feature. Both of the options work most of the time and does not disappoint the users.
Battery
The phone might not have a lot of power, but it still needs the power to run a full working day. The 6,000mAh battery can actually last you a full working day on moderate usage. A full day, too, if you are a light user. It comes with 18W fast charge capabilities and a 22.5W charger in the box. The USB-C cable is fast and the phone also has reverse wired charging capabilities and runs on ELB, Enhanced Lifespan Batter, technology.
Operating System
Redmi 9 Power runs on MiUI 12 on top of Android 10. The phone should receive updates of MiUI 12.5 and Android 11 in the coming future. With the software updates MiUI 12.5 brings, the phone can become even smoother.
Variants
The phone comes in two RAM variants with 4 G and 6 GB configurations along with 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. Both the variants are splash-proof, come with rubberised and corrosion-proof ports and autocleaning speakers. The storage on the phone can be expanded up to 512 GB via a microSD card. The 4 colour variants namely, Mighty Black, Blazing Blue, Fiery Red and Electric Green stand out from the standard. The phone is priced at 12,999 and is available across Mi.com, Amazon India, Mi Homes and Mi Studios starting 12:00 Noon on 22 February 2021
