The Game Most Popular in Asia, but Americas the Highest-Grossing Market
Pokémon Go took the world by storm back in 2016. Within a week of its release, the mobile game had been downloaded over ten million times worldwide, showing the enormous hype about the launch of Nintendo's first venture into mobile gaming.
Although the initial Pokémon craze has slowly faded, the game still enjoys millions of active users worldwide, who have spent billions on in-app purchases over the years.
The Statista and App Magic data show 2020 remains the record year by annual revenue, with Pokémon Go players spending $915.2 million dollars on buying Pokéballs and other in-game items. Total Number of Downloads Close to 600 Million
The Statista and App Magic data also showed that since its release in 2016, Pokémon Go had been downloaded 590 million times worldwide. More than half of that was recorded in the game's first year.
In 2020 only, when millions of people turned to mobile games amid the COVID-19 lockdown, the game was downloaded more than 60 million times, 4 million more than last year. Statistics show the number of downloads in the eight months of 2022 hit around 23 million worldwide.
The surging user base has helped Pokémon GO to remain one of the highest-grossing mobile games worldwide. The location-based megahit ranked as the seventh highest-grossing mobile game in 2022, behind Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, Genshin Impact, Candy Crush Saga, Roblox, and Coin Master.
