OnePlus unveiled its first foldable smartphone in India on October 19 at the 'Open for everything' event. The smartphone is directly competing with the Samsung Z Fold 5, which was introduced in July of this year and is now the market leader in the foldable category.
The well-known foldable smartphone from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, is expected to face fierce competition from the OnePlus Open, which was released at a price of Rs 1,39,999. Given that both phones fall into the same category, this comparison may be able to identify the winner of the two.
OnePlus Open Specification
The OnePlus Open comes with a 7.82-inch flexible liquid AMOLED panel with a dynamic refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The smartphone also features a 6.31-inch Super Fluid AMOLED full-screen display with a dynamic refresh rate of 10-120Hz. OnePlus' latest foldable is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and Adreno 740 GPU. In terms of storage, the OnePlus Open has 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 ROM.
The smartphone is powered by a 4,805mAh dual-cell battery that can be quickly charged using OnePlus' 67W SUPERVOOC charging. In terms of camera, the OnePlus Open has a 48-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 Sony LYT-T808 lens.
The main sensor supports optical image stabilization (OIS), HDR and EIS. In addition, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens are also foldable. OnePlus foldable smartphone also comes with four years of Android OS updates and five years of security patches.
Samsung Z Fold 5 specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 7.6-inch QXGA Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz. It also has a 6.2-inch HD cover screen with dynamic AMOLED 2X display, 402ppi and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (48-120Hz). The Z Fold 5 has a 10-megapixel selfie camera with an 85-degree field of view (FOV) and a 4-megapixel under-display camera.
The rear has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto. The smartphone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform coupled with 12 GB of memory and is available in three storage models: Galaxy Z Fold 5 (256 GB, 512 GB and 1TB).
The device is backed by a dual 4400 mAh battery that supports up to 50% wired charging in about 30 minutes with a 25W adapter. The power supply unit is sold separately. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has an IPX8 rating and is said to be waterproof up to 1.5 meters in fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
Now let's talk about the comparison between OnePlus Open and Samsung Z Fold 5
The OnePlus Open is priced at Rs 1,39,999, while the Samsung Z Fold 5 is priced at Rs 1,54,999 for the 256GB storage variant, making the battle for the best foldable smartphone even tougher. Both smartphones have their own problems and advantages.
While the OnePlus Open packs a bigger 4,805mAh battery and 67W fast charging compared to the Z Fold 5's 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging, it doesn't support wireless charging. The OnePlus foldable also only includes IPX4 water resistance compared to the Z Fold 5's IPX8 rating, and it doesn't support its rival's S Pen.
