After targeting the twitter account of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, hackers took down the official website of the Congress party. Abusive tweets were posted on the Congress’s account @INCIndia although those tweets were removed within 30 minutes. The party’s website inc.in has also been found to be hacked.
The official Congress Twitter account has 1.39 million followers and Rahul Gandhi has 1.23 million followers.
“It’s a huge question mark on the digital security,” Gandhi was quoted saying by news agency ANI.
The party has termed this hacking as “unscrupulous, unethical and roguish” and blamed internet trolls for the act.
“Such unscrupulous, unethical and roguish conduct of venal trolls to hack @OfficeOfRG reflects disturbing insecurities of prevalent fascist culture,” party spokesman Randeep Surjewala tweeted immediately afterward. The party has filed a complaint with the cyber cell of the Delhi Police over Gandhi’s Twitter account being hacked.
It is expected that the party will raise this issue in both Houses of Parliament in the ongoing winter session.
The account has been restored.
