DataNumen has released DataNumen Word Repair version 2.5, a Windows application that repairs damaged files created by Microsoft Word and other word processors and text editors that create .DOC and .DOCX files.
In addition to recovering text, images, and formatting, v. 2.5 also recovers Word tables, bookmarks, bulleted and numbered lists, and hyperlinks.
The free trial version of DataNumen Word Repair allows users to see a preview of all of the recovered documents. By purchasing the full version of the program, users will be able to save all of the recovered information.
DataNumen Word Repair has a proprietary feature that facilitates the recovery of Word informati on when there has been a data disaster. When Microsoft Word detects that a .DOC or .DOCX file has been damaged or corrupted, it saves two types of temporary files (.WBK and .ASD). DataNumen Word Repair can access these temp files and can usually use them to rebuild the damaged Word files.
The registered version of the software can be run in batch mode to fix an unlimited number of damaged Word files. DataNumen Word Repair works with modern drives as well as older media including CDROMs, DVDs, floppy disks, Zip disks, and other removables.
The software is integrated with Windows Explorer, allowing users to repair doc and docx files with the context (right click) menu of Windows Explorer. Dragging and dropping files is also supported.
Forensic professionals, network administrators, database managers, and law enforcement officials use DataNumen Word Repair as a forensic tool to identify and repair damaged Word documents. As of now, it costs $89.95(US) for a single-user license.
