Android 12 is now available for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K. The 2020 streaming dongle was updated after Google's less expensive HD variant, which came pre-installed with Android 12. It was made available last month. Android 12 is currently trickling out to Chromecast after debuting on the less expensive HD device earlier this month.
The 722MB update, with STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754, "upgrades Android TV OS from 10 to 12" and updates the Google TV (4K). Chromecast to the July 2022 security patch level from May 2022, which was released mid-July as the year's first update.
All you need to know about the new version
Since video chatting is best on a giant screen in your house, the critical privacy enhancements are the camera and microphone toggles that "allow you to hide or enable camera/mic access for all applications."
Android 10 included system noises, but they were pretty silent. They appear to be louder on Android 12 and more in line with other Android TV devices.

System upgrades aren't a significant source of new features or modifications for Google TV and Android TV; instead, the launcher or through apps see the most significant changes. The Chromecast with Google TV (HD), which came with the update pre-installed, was the first device to use many new capabilities that arrived with Android 12 for Chromecast with Google TV.

There is currently no definite date for when Android 12 will be updated for Chromecast with Google TV (4K), but it should happen shortly via a conventional OTA update.
