Netflix has become part of the new lockdown life in India. More people are streaming content now than they have ever before. It is no surprise that platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime are releasing new content that is only for the Indian markets. Since lockdown has started Netflix has seen a rise not only in subscriptions but also in streaming time on its platform in India. Unlike in other countries, Netflix has faced an uphill battle against the competition in the Indian market. In India alone, there are major streaming services like Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Voot, Zee5, Jio Cinema, SonyLiv, and many more that are offering India specific content at a much lower cost.
To combat this and increase its presence in countries like India Netflix launched its first mobile-only plan at Rs. 199. The plan achieved some success but even then it was more expensive than Amazon Prime which was offering Rs. 129 monthly plan that included Prime Video, Prime Music, and other Prime services. Even Hotstar has a monthly plan at Rs. 299 which offers Disney+ and latest American Shows and movies just minutes after being televised. This led to more people switching from Netflix to other streaming platforms. To counter this and again make in-roads in India, Netflix has launched another plan called the Mobile+.
Netflix Mobile Plus Plan in India at Rs. 349
The new plan is in its test phase now. Under this new plan, users will be able to stream on their mobiles, tablets, and laptops in HD resolution. This plan is only for one device at a time so if you are streaming on your mobile then you can’t stream on any other device. This plan will not support streaming on Tv. This new plan will be tested first in India and if it achieves success then it will become permanent. The new mobile plus plan has already gone live on Netflix in India. Users can switch to this plan from their current plan. As of now, the new mobile-only plan is running alongside with the Rs. 199 mobile-only plan which offered to stream in only SD quality. There is another plan of Rs. 499 that lets users stream on Tv but only in SD resolution.
