Before going into the advantages of MHL technology and how it will enhance mobile phone experience, let us understand what
MHL is?
The MHL Consortium
The MHL Consortium comprises of Nokia, Samsung Electronics, Silicon Image, Sony, and Toshiba. The MHL specification utilizes established connectors and features a single cable with a 5-pin interface, supports 4K (Ultra HD) video and digital audio and simultaneously provides power to the mobile device. It also enables the TV remote to control the mobile phone and access its contents. There have been 3 versions of MHL viz MHL 1.0, MHL 2.0 and the latest MHL 3.0.
With double the bandwidth compared to the previous specification, MHL 3.0 delivers 4K(Ultra HD) resolution and a wider color gamut to create a more brilliant visual experience. By using a bi-directional channel that’s significantly faster than MHL 2, the new specification enables concurrent 4K video and high-speed peripheral support of mass storage and input devices such as a touch screen, keyboard and mouse.
