Alok Hada, Director of Anusha Technovision Pvt. Ltd, talks about smart homes, smart solutions and smart hubs. IoT devices are set to play a greater role in the future as home owner will be able to control his home from anywhere in the world.
What are the elements of a Smart Home?
Any electronic gadget connected on the same ecosystem can easily become part of a “Smart Home”, and the control of these various gadgets such as lighting, AC, Security, and entertainment devices can be done via user friendly interface such as your smart phone or a tablet. Even a voice assistant like Alexa is can be used for the same.
How does a Smart Home reduce costs and streamline operations?
Smart Homes allow a home owner to live on “just the right amount” principle. To substantiate, if we did not have dimmers for lighting, we would actually have lights on at 100 per cent level when we are occupying the space, even though our requirement might be just for 50 per cent of the lighting. Similarly when it comes to the air conditioning, you can control and monitor the AC usage in the entire house easily and conveniently from your smart phone or tablet, and this increases the chance of saving energy, on HVAC increases. Hence, I say, “just the right amount”—be it lighting, temperature control, or switching on off of appliances, energy is saved when controlled via Smart Home System.
How do smart solutions benefit offices, hotels, studios, multiplexes and retail stores?
Smart solutions save energy in any application, be it a home, an office or any other space, however, the prime need for using automation changes. In a hotel, it could be all about achieving the right ambience, at home it’s about convenience and about energy saving.
What is the role of Internet of Things in all of this?
Internet of Things is a broad term associated with smart gadgets, interconnected through the internet or cloud. In a Smart Home not only can the home owner control devices from within the home but he can do this from anywhere in the world since all the devices are interconnected to a smart hub and this hub can be on the LAN as well as on the Internet.
