Jio Glass was one of the most exciting announcements in the Reliance AGM 2020. In the Livestream, it was probably the one announcement that captured the imagination of India. In the Livestream event, it was said that these new Jio Glasses will offer mixed reality experience to the users. Now for most people who have been following the tech news for some time this type of technology was first tried out by Google. Google Glass offered for the first time a technology that gave us a glimpse into the future but sadly was not able to make a mark. Now with the Jio Glass, we have the same level of excitement again.
Millions of Indians all over the country saw Mixed reality looks like. Mixed reality as the name implies is a mixture of the real world and the virtual world. If you Google Mixed Reality you will find images that make mixed-reality look like some Hollywood movie but there is more to it. Mixed reality is not yet defined in concrete terms like VR or AR have been. It is still a new form of technology so it makes sense that people want to know more about it.
Pricing of the Jio Glass
Many people after seeing the Jio glass want to the pricing and when it will be available. Even though we don’t yet know when the Jio Glass will be available we can predict the pricing to a degree. Firstly, the Jio Glass that you saw in the Livestream will be affordable for most middle-class consumers. Since it is a new technology that Jio is trying to implement they need a huge user sample that they already have in India. Secondly, unlike most implementations of mixed reality glass technology like Google Glass the Jio Glass is going to use your smartphone to work. In the Livestream, it was clearly stated that they connected the Jio Glass to the smartphone before they showed us its features. So it is utilizing the hardware of your smartphone to execute its functions.
This means that the Jio Glass will not need a lot of hardware inside it and also that it needs another device to execute its functions. Combine these two aspects and the fact that Jio probably will subsidize the price of the Jio glass through the sales of its other products and the pricing pattern starts to emerge. We predict that the Jio Glass will be priced under Rs. 30,000 in India when it launches.
