Reliance Jio announced in the Reliance AGM 2020 of its new Jio Developers program. Under this program, Jio will offer Indian app developers an app publishing platform and a distribution network. According to the information available on the Jio developers website and on the AGM 2020 it seems that any person or persons or an organization can be a part of the Jio developers program. It seems like Jio is trying to create an entire ecosystem just like Apple. Jio also announced that they are working with Google to create an India centric operating system. Add to that the Jio Mart and Jio Health and many more Jio apps and you have an entire ecosystem that runs from your smartphones to your Tv. Jio is also creating its rival to Google Playstore called the Jio Store. The website is not functional yet but the domain name has been registered.
How to become a Jio Developer
To become a Jio developer, first, you have to sign up on the website. Once you are logged in follow the steps given and register yourself or your organization on the Jio Developers platform. There is a lot of documentation that you should go through like terms of service and agreements. To develop apps Jio is providing the android SDK emulator. This is the same emulator that Google provides. The Jio developers program is for Indian Developers only.
As of now only the STB or the Jio TV plus apps are open for development but soon enough Jio will start to publish all the apps that Indian devs come up with on its own Jio store. Another thing to mention here would be that apps published through the Jio developers program will be monetized just like the apps on Google Play store. We don't know yet if Jio will charge the developers any fee for the transactions that take place in the app. Jio Developers program also offers devs support in their app development and a bigger reach to the Indian users.
