How to install Android app not available on Play Store

Unlike Apple iOS, Android operating system allows you to download and install Android app from other places. But download them at your risk.

While most of the times when you are looking for an Android app it will be available on the Google Play Store, but there are times when you want to install an app but isn’t available in India. Unlike iOS, Android allows you to download and install apps from other places.

But before we get started, we recommend you to download any app activity to the Google Play Store as much as possible. And while Android scan apps downloaded from other sources, but you might encounter something unusual, so be beware of that and download the app at your own risk.

How to find an Android app not listed on the Play Store

In your phone’s browser, open APKMirror.com. Then scroll through the site’s collection, and if you haven’t find what you are looking for, use the search box located at the top to find the needed app.

If there are more than one version of the app available, the website lists them by version number and release date. Select the version you want, then click on the file name named ‘Download’ then click on the ‘Download APK’ button on the bottom of the next page.

Your device will now issue a warning prompt about the risks of installing unknown apps, click the ‘OK’ button to proceed.

How to install the app

Once the download is complete, go to your notification panel and click on the downloaded file to begin installation.

The phone will now issue another prompt to allow unknown apps to be installed, either at a system-wide level, if you have an older version of Android running on your phone, or for your browser only, if you are running Android 8.0 Oreo or higher. Click on the ‘Settings’ link in that box and then activate the toggle on the screen that comes up.

Press the back button, and the device will ask you to confirm the app you want to install. Click ‘Install.’ And once the installation is finished, you’ll see a confirmation screen.

The installed app can be opened either from that screen or by scrolling through your app drawer.
