Google Pixel 4a was recently launched globally by the company and is to come to India in October. The Google Pixel 4A is targetted towards the mid-range segment in India. Now there were rumors floating around about the new Google Pixel 5 and the Google Pixel 4A 5G variant coming to India as well but it seems that is not the case. In a statement given by Google, they have clarified that the Pixel 5 and Google Pixel 4A 5G won’t be coming to India. The news comes as a response to the online rumors floating around but having said that it is a shocking turn of events.
The statement given by Google says “Regarding the two new 5G Pixel phones that were announced globally today, these will not be available in India or Singapore, based on a variety of factors including local market trends and product features. We remain deeply committed to our current Pixel phones and look forward to bringing future Pixel devices to these countries.”
This is a little surprising considering that India has the highest number of smartphone users. Google has been aggressively pushing in the Indian markets and has been collaborating with many Indian tech giants like Reliance Jio but the new Pixel devices won’t be launching in India except the Google Pixel 4A and that too only the 4G variant. Compared to some of the other offerings that have been launched in the Indian markets like the latest Oneplus Nord and Asus ROG Phone 3 this news by Google does come as a surprise.
Maybe the move was taken by Google for the Indian markets due to the slowing of smartphone sales. It remains to be seen if the decision taken by Google is correct but from the way other smartphone makers are targeting the Indian markets it does seem surprising for Google to not do so.
