Fortnite has been in the news lately. The surreal Travis Scott concert, which was held in-game saw quite a massive viewership, pulling in a record breaking 12.3 million peak concurrent viewers. But the latest news isn’t as good. In a series of tweets, Epic has announced that Fortnite World Cup 2020 will be cancelled.
Physical Events - For the rest of 2020, all Fortnite competitions will be held online. Due to the limitations of cross region online competition, there will not be a Fortnite World Cup in 2020.

The reason, of course, is the coronavirus pandemic. While many games shifted their scheduled competitions online, Epic said that Fortnite World Cup 2020 couldn’t be held online “due to the limitations of cross region online competition”.
We don't know when a return to large, global, in-person events will be practical, but we're hopeful to be able to put on some form of Fortnite World Cup in 2021. In the meantime we have more info about online events with FNCS, Cash Cups, 3rd Party Events and Broadcasts.

They also went on to inform that FNCS, which is as such held online, will take place this year along with cash cups and 3rd party event.
The first Fortnite World Cup, which was held in 2019, had the prize pool of $30 million, with the 16 year old winner Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf winning $3 million.
