First Impressions of Lenovo K6 Power - Promising Specs, Edgy Design and Fingerprint Scanner at Rs. 9,999

See beyond looks, is what could have been Lenovo’s motto with the launch of Lenovo K6 Power, the newest member of Lenovo’s K-series smartphone family. Sheathed fully with a metal, the design elements in K6 Power appear to be a rejig of popular concepts in 2016. Pointers on the specs sheet, however, make the phone an intriguing deal power-packed with great multimedia features.

The finish on the phone is smooth and you are least likely to spot any edge or corner which bleeds of imperfection. The all-metal design does not feel slippery in the palm. The 5-inch screen and the hardware around it fit comfortably in dimensions which most users prefer. While a weight of 145g may make you assume the phone is heavy, Lenovo K6 Power surprises with how light it feels in the palm. The K6 Power is available in Silver, Gold and Dark Gray Colours. Based on our brief interaction with the device at the Lenovo K6 Power launch event in Delhi, following are a few (not so subtle) observations.

Charming Display and Sleek Interface:

Up front, the 5-inch screen has a resolution of 1080 by 1920p, giving the FullHD screen a pixel density of 441 ppi (pixels per square inch). The display is attractively sharp and while the colours are not as immersive as an AMOLED display, this is one of the most colour-accurate displays in the sub-10k range. The device is loaded with Android Marshmallow v6.0.1 with an interface that hugely takes cues from stock Android. The breeze of vanilla is a breather for many who complained of arrests despite decent RAM in previous K-series devices.

Capacitive Buttons that Don't Light Up

Besides the screen, the front features capacitive Recents, Home and Back buttons as well as an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with a Sony sensor. The buttons at the bottom do not light up on haptic interactions.

Rear Surface:

The rear features a 13-megapixel IMX258 imaging sensor from Sony, alongside a single LED flash and a fingerprint sensor, and a secondary mic for noise cancellation. Lenovo followed an “Art of Symmetry” philosophy with this launch, in which all major elements – Microphones, Power jack, camera, fingerprint scanner, speaker grill etc. are placed on an imaginary vertical line along or symmetric to the centre of the device.

The rear face of the device also hosts a Lenovo logo, alongside dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound. Lenovo claims that these can be as loud as 87 dB. There are chrome bands across the width to boost signal strength.

Around the Body:

The only element Lenovo cannot shift upwards is the primary microphone, located at the bottom. The top contains power input and 3.5mm audio jacks.

Waltzing with it sideways, we find that the left edge features a Hybrid SIM slot, which you may use to add additional 128GB to the existing on-board 32GB storage. The right side has the volume rocker and power button.

Pictures Kissed with Clarity:

The cameras on K6 Power offer a feature-packed interface. The rear camera comes with a manual mode and features like slo-mo video and in the first impressions performed to our pleasure with sharp and true to life hues. Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) allows the camera to focus swiftly. The front-facing camera clicked pictures average in terms of sharpness in the indoor lighting of the Lenovo K6 launch event.

Under the Hood:

The Lenovo K6 Power has attractive specifications on board. It has Snapdragon 430 octa-core chipset with Adreno 505 GPU. Lenovo boasts of #Kickass performance with the 3GB RAM on board. During our brief interaction, no minor lag seized our attention. The camera app, however, was meekly laggy and we hope future software/performance update will fix this. K6 Power is also tuned for a rich VR (Virtual Reality) experience using VMax Theatre Technology.

Locking Horns with Redmi 3S Prime:

The phone seems to be a compelling option for the price if you can see past its looks which resemble deep-seated direct competitor the Redmi 3S Prime.

The Lenovo K6 Power will be available exclusively on Flipkart, starting December 6th, 2016.
