A few days back MLA Ninong Ering from Arunachal Pradesh tweeted expressing his concern about the launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India. He thought that the launch of the game will compromise the data and the privacy of the Indian audience. He added that just the mere renaming of the game does not mean that it is safe to play now.
This tweet did not go well with the community and the disagreement did not come in a very civilized manner. A YouTuber with the channel name Paras Official and more than 4 lakh subscribers made racial comments on the MLA and the people of Arunachal Pradesh. This did not sit well with the people of Arunachal Pradesh because their "Indianness" was also questioned based on the way they look. The creator went a step further and drew physical similarities between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and people from China. The territorial position was also questioned by the creator by saying that the state is close to China that it is practically China with Chinese people living there.
As a response to this, Mr Lokesh Suji, Director, Esports Federation of India & Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF) said:
"ESFI strongly condemns the derogatory remarks made by the said streamer. This behaviour is not the true reflection of our esports community. The majority of esports athletes behave responsibly and are aware of the lines that should not be crossed. We have “Zero Tolerance” towards any kind of behaviour as we saw in this case. Social media platforms must not be used to make illogical and irresponsible comments and one should refrain from commenting on anything which they are not aware of. There have been instances in the past also, but now the time has come where such influencers and streamers should be cautious of what they speak and write.
Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, and it will remain so. No one is beyond the sovereignty and integrity of the country. We fully support the action taken by the relevant authorities. We all are one across the length and breadth of the nation."
Apart from this, the community is also reacting to it and no one is in support of this behavioural misconduct.
Honourable Mr Kiren Rijiju, the current Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs of India has already spoken on this issue:
The YouTube creator has issued a public apology on his channel Paras Official but an FIR has been lodged against him and actions are to be taken against him. Stay tuned to this space to stay updated.
