Epic Games periodically gives out free games to its users for a limited period of time. Some of the games are just meh-ish, and sometimes they give out games that are just amazing, like Metro: 2033. This time, it is Celeste, which falls in the latter category.
Celeste is an indie game developed by Canadian video game developers Matt Thorson and Noel Berry, with art of the Brazilian Studio MiniBoss. It is a pixelated platformer, but don’t let it fool you. The game is a beauty. It has incredibly tight physics and is just as difficult. But it is an engaging platformer with over 700 screens that will keep you busy for quite a while.
It follows the journey of Madeline who decides to climb the Celeste Mountain, despite being warned by an old woman not to do so. On the way to the top, she has to face many obstacles, including her shadow self. The shadow self berates her and demotivates her, which is an allegory for depression and self doubt. These mental illnesses are one of the central themes of the story.
The game usually goes for $8 on Epic, but it is free as of now. So go claim this amazing game.
