Shipment levels in the third quarter of 2023 exceeded those in the third quarters of 2022 and 2021. The increase is attributed to the entry of lesser brands into the market and the inclusion of newer categories, such as smart rings, into the competition.

Here is the total volume of wearable shipments in Q3 2023

According to an International Data Corporation (IDC) study on the Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker, the total volume of wearable shipments in Q3 2023 was 148.4 million units, representing a 2.6 percent year-on-year rise. It topped Q3 2022 and Q3 2021 shipments of 142.1 million and 144.6 million units, respectively.

Imagine Marketing's wearable maker delivered 14.3 units in the quarter, accounting for 9.6 percent of the market share, trailing only Apple, which shipped 29.9 million wearable units, accounting for a 20.2 percent market share. With 11.6 million and 10.7 million unit shipments, Xiaomi and Samsung had market shares of 7.8 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.

Boat released its Smart Ring in India

Boat released its Smart Ring in India at Rs. 8,999 earlier this year. The wearable is reported to monitor various health metrics such as heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels, sleep, and body temperature, and it can even make SOS calls.

Samsung, one of the world's biggest OEMs, is also said to be developing a smart ring. It is expected to be the main attraction at the 2024 Galaxy Unpacked event, which will take place on 17 January in San Jose, California. The speculated wearable name has yet to be confirmed, but it is thought that, like most fitness trackers, this smart ring will track, measure, and monitor the user's health, fitness, and sleep-related data.
