Last year BlackBerry entered in to the mainstream Android-based smartphone and launched Priv. BlackBerry comes with two new smartphones running on latest Android – DTEK50 and DTEK60. While DTEK50 falls under mid-range 22k, DTEK60 comes at high price of 47k.
The DTEK50 is build to attract consumers looking for a great device with great brand name. It looks cool, the plane front panel is covered with glass and the rear gets grippy, soft-touch plastic back panel. It hosts a 5.2-inch IPS LCD 1080 x 1920 pixels (~424 ppi pixel density) screen. It is packed with Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617, Octa-core (4x1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.2 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and Adreno 405 GPU. It comes with 3 GB RAM, 16 GB inbuilt memory. You might feel the built in memory is low as per today’s requirement, but the good part is, you can expand the memory up to 2TB. It boasts 13 MP camera at rear and 8 MP at the front. Meaning, the phone combines powerful hardware.
While playing the device for about 15 minutes, it was running smooth. Screen look vibrant and produces good colours with balanced brightness while keeping the setting on auto brightness mode. We tried to use some of the apps such as BlackBerry Hub+ and DTEK.
The Hub+ provides both enhanced security and improved productivity. It offers consistent experience across BlackBerry applications, including common menus that allow you to open items in other BlackBerry applications. While the DTEK allows you to view and improve your privacy level and monitor application access to your camera, microphone, location, and personal information. We also played some games such as subway surfer and asphalt 8. The phone was running smooth without any visible performance lag, so we can say it can handle daily productivity and other tasks easily.
About the front and rear camera, the rear 13 MP camera was quite fast in capturing images. Camera UI gives you various options to click different images with ease. The front shooter is also good in capture detailed images quickly.
After experiencing the device, we could the BlackBerry did a good job in terms of choosing hardware and its design.
Early Verdict
It is a solid device with combination of good hardware and decent performance. If security is your main concern then, BlackBerry is the best choice, otherwise, there is nothing special to look for. Though we played with device for only a few minutes, and this was our experience with the smartphone. Soon we will get back with a detaild DETK50 review.
