Indian mobile operating system BharOS, created by IIT Madras, is making strides in the country. More than 100 crore smartphone users in the country are expected to gain from this system by receiving a secure system.
How effective it would be against Google’s Android?
JandK Operations Private Limited created the Android Open Source Project-based operating system known as BharOS. Incubated at IIT Madras is the non-profit organization known as the JandKops.
The BharOS and Android OS are very similar in technical terms. However, the fact that BharOS does not come pre-installed with Google services is the primary distinction between the two operating systems. Users will be able to install apps according to their interests on this separate operating system.
BharOS has not yet been demonstrated to be a viable alternative to pre-installed operating systems. In addition, there are no specifics regarding the length of time the operating system will receive software and security updates.
It's interesting to note that DuckDuckGo and Signal are third-party applications that are installed as the default messaging and browser applications in the current version of BharOS. In addition, it is unclear whether the BharOS development team will work with the OEM to launch smartphones that support BharOS.
At this time, the makers of BharOS haven't said when the operating system will be available for download. The developers of BharOS will need to optimize it for each model of Android smartphone in order for it to function smoothly on all of them.
There are currently no specifics regarding the smartphones that would support BharOS. However, it is anticipated that the company will soon collaborate with some Android OEMs to create smartphones running BharOS. Although the makers of the operating system have not confirmed which specific device models support BharOS, it is said that the system is compatible with Google Pixel devices.
The creators of BharOS assert that, in terms of security and features, BharOS is superior to iOS and Android. In addition, they assert that BharOS may even extend the device's battery life. It will also come with an app store based in India and let users install apps of their choice.
