With the launch of iOS 13, the most notable feature has been the dark theme that transforms many apps and user interface with a dark hue and converts text from black to white. The new dark mode theme works across all apps and system navigation controls to enhance readability in dimly lit environments or while using the devices at night to reduce eye strain.
Even, third-party app developers can now incorporate dark mode to all their existing and future apps. Dark Mode can be scheduled to turn on automatically at sunset or at a certain time and adjusts background and foreground colors to make content stand out.
Here is how to switch it
Apple offers three ways to turn on the dark theme -- you can manually browse between the themes via Control Centre or you can head to the Settings app each time you want to change it. However, Apple is also offering a new way wherein the phone automatically switches between light and dark depending on the time of day or sunset and sunrise cycles. This means you can have a lighter theme on your iPhone during the day time and a dark theme for easy readability in the evening and night time use.
While turning up the automatic dark theme switching is easy, keep in mind that Apple doesn’t issue a prompt to you when you first install iOS 13 or set up a new phone. To use a dark theme, make sure your iPhone is running iOS 13 or later. If not, you can do so by going to the Settings > General > Software update on an iPhone 6S, iPad Air 2, or newer.
Then tap the Settings app and head to Display & Brightness settings.
Tap the Automatic setting under the Appearance tab then click on the Options button to set the Appearance Schedule.
You can select from either Sunset to Sunrise, which uses your phone’s current location to switch between light and dark themes depending on the time the sun goes down. You can also set your own custom schedule.
