Amazon Prime Video is now available to customers in more than 200 countries including India and territories around the globe. The availability of Prime Video has increased the number of options available to the Indian users looking for quality content.
Like Netflix, Prime Video is a subscription based service and is more affordable than its competitor. Through a single annual subscription plan of Rs 499, you can enjoy the services on your smartphone, tablets, Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation, TV, and PC. On the contrary, Netflix has more subscription options but charges a lot more. Even the Basic Subscription plan costs Rs 500 per month which allows a user to access content in Standard Definition (SD) resolution on only one device at a time.
The Standard Plan which costs Rs650 a month allows users to stream content in High Definition (HD) resolution on up to two devices at one time.
The Premium subscription plan which costs Rs800 allows the user to watch Ultra HD (4K) content on four devices. Amazon Prime allows the user to stream in HD or SD or 4K (if available) without charging anything extra over the annual plan.
Both Amazon Prime Video and Netflix allow free access to their content for the first 30 days after subscription. The current price structure gives Prime Video an upper hand over Netflix, but it won’t be an easy choice as both of them have unique content to offer.
While Amazon allows the user to browse through the Prime Video library without signing up for the subscription, users have to sign up and subscribe before they can even take a look at the Netflix library.
Yeh Dil Maange More
The best thing about Prime Video is the Amazon’s Original shows. These are very similar to Netflix Originals and many of them like Jeremy Clarkson’s The Grand Tour, Bosch, and The Man in the High Castle are critically acclaimed. All these are available to Indian users. Almost all Netflix Originals are available to users in India and shows like House of Cards, Daredevil, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black are quite popular.
After the arrival of Netflix, the prime concern faced by the users was the availability of native content. According to unogs.com, which maintains a record of the number of TV shows and movies offered by Netflix in every country, the India library has improved significantly and it includes 1,468 movies and 578 series as of December 2016. Amazon is yet to share any details on the number of movies and shows its India library has.
While Prime Video has a different kids section, Netflix gives you the option of creating a separate profile for children.
Native content
In terms of localized content, Netflix has little to offer and is way behind when compared to other players like Hotstar.
Prime Video fares better than Netflix in terms of native content and it has an impressive library which is categorized by languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Coming to offline feature, both Prime Video and Netflix offer this facility by allowing the user to download movies and TV show. The content can be downloaded on WiFi and can be accessed anytime.
Another unique feature offered by Netflix is that it allows the users to adjust the quality of video streams on mobile broadband. Through this feature, users can keep a tab on their mobile bandwidth.
TV shows or Movies
If you are more into movies then Amazon Prime Video is the best option available right now. It has an impressive collection of Bollywood movies in many languages. For people who prefer TV series, Netflix is the best choice.
To conclude, Amazon Prime Video has offered a better deal to the users and its subscription cost is low compared to Netflix. Also, with Prime video subscription users have the advantage of one and two-day delivery service under Amazon Prime.
